House Projects :: Basement Demo + The boy space inspiration

The basement is another step closer!  The walls are almost all out and the remaining demolition is happening today.  Hooray for progress!!

As we move along, I thought I'd give you the grand tour with our inspiration for what the space will look like when we're done.  Today, the boy's spaces.  Wish us luck!

THE BOY'S BEDROOM

There is a window already existing in the space that is large enough for egress.  We just need to replace the glass block with an operable window and we are in great shape for a bedroom.  Plus, there is a lot of natural light coming from the window which will be really nice in a basement bedroom.

There is also a small 'indent' in the room where the workbench is currently that will become a closet and built in desk area.  I'd love to have a built in dresser there too - but I think that could be pushing it...

I can't decide if bunks are a good idea...  The boys will be pretty young when they are sharing a room.  Risky or smart?

THE BOYS BATHROOM

This space is right off the existing/ remaining playroom and will be a large-ish bath for the boys.  We are calling it the locker room.  We are aware that our boys are only three years apart and will be teenagers at the same time.  Two teenage boys in a bathroom kind of grosses me out.

We're working with the tile installer to get the floor sloped to the shower so there is no curb at the shower which means we could potentially hose out the whole room if needed.  There will be no cabinets to store Axe body spray and no closed door closets to leave wet towels in.  We will have some open shelf space and potentially even some lockers - it is a locker room after all.

The walls will be tiled up to the ceiling too.

Some people call it having no faith in my children.  I call it realism.

Love this look, but I am pretty sure two boys won't keep it this cute.  A girl can dream...

This is exactly what we're doing for the shower.  No door.  No curb.  No hassles.  Tres locker room chic.
