House Projects :: Tree Removal

Yesterday we had a giant tree removed from the front yard.  It was so cool to watch.  They took it out with a crane truck so the ground wouldn't be damaged - or other plants below the tree.  The plants we were worried about damaging weren't mine.  The plants we own below that tree are scraggly old things that are coming out.  But my neighbor has a lovely yard and I would not have been able to let go of the guilt had we wrecked anything.

Here are a few photos.  I refuse to show you what the ground looks like now because it's a pile of shavings left from the stump grinder, dead grass, and hopeless plants that haven't seen the light of day in fifty years.

:: BEFORE ::

Here we go!  Each section was tied off to the top of a crane truck then cut at the base of the tree.  The entire section was lifted, set on the road and fed to a chipper.  When the branches and smaller parts were chipped up, the large remaining 'logs' were loaded onto a log truck.  Presumably to be sold.

This section actually went up and over my car.  EEK!

No more tree = actual light in the courtyard of our house + a bigger feeling front yard.  Now we need to replace the fence because it's not entirely solid.  There are lots of boards that are starting to fall out.  Then onto landscaping!  Hooray!
