Bookalicious :: Food Trucks

Right before I left for Hawaii, this book showed up at the studio.  The beautiful photography (not to mention timely subject) made me dive right in to check it out.  And I am so glad I did!!  There is an entire section on Oahu food trucks and I was sure I could find at least one on my vacation.

And I did!  We were at our regular Thursday evening farmer's market and there was Soul Patrol.  I saw the truck in the parking lot and got really excited.  As soon as I hauled myself into the market I went on a  hunt for Sean Priester and his famous soul food.

I found him dishing up chicken gumbo, fried chicken, collard greens, and corn bread.  He is super nice and his food amazing!  What else would you expect from a former executive chef at one of Waikiki's most popular fancy restaurants?

Even better, since starting his food truck and becoming such a hit around Oahu, Sean has opened a restaurant where you are guaranteed to find his food - without having to stalk him on Twitter, as I was doing.  He is such a gem.  If you are on the island, you should check out his food.  Although it's not typical Hawaiian plate lunch, it fills the same void as it's hearty, heart warming, and definitely sticks to your ribs!

Enormously pregnant and my hair is totally frizzing out.  Gross.  He's adorable however.

The book is divided into regions with a handful of trucks mentioned in each region.  When I get home I'll be tracking down the Seattle food trucks mentioned in the book.  I am sure there is a dispute over the NYC food trucks as there are only a few listed from the hundreds that I remember.  Have you found a food truck you love?  Where is it?  I will eat there.
