House Projects :: Painted Fireplace

When we first bought the house I was excited about the grey stone fireplace.  It was a little dirty, but still cool.  When our painter started to clean it with an acid solution, she discovered that the fireplace stones weren't grey but red originally.  She stopped cleaning when the grey paint started coming off - so some places had an awkward pink glow to them.

The decision to paint was made.

I am thrilled with the clean white look and I decided to paint the inside of the fire box white too.  We aren't lighting a fire in there, so why bother with a black hole in the house?  Plus, I had painted some alder logs gold and they looked way better in a white space than a black space.

Now I just need some art to hang above the fire box.  I think the kids and I are going to make something this weekend.  Can't wait to share that project with you!
