Father's Day!

Can you believe it's already Father's Day this weekend?  It totally snuck up on me, but here are my ideas for celebrating Sunday in style.  Tune into KOMO 4 News today at 4pm to see everything!

:: Custom stamped Apron ::
Make an apron for your dad that suits his style.  My dad makes killer breakfasts so an eggs and bacon apron was perfect for him.  Load the kids up with paint and ideas and let them run wild.

:: Grilling Spices ::
Is your dad more of a grilling guy?  Blend your own grilling spices and package them in a cute tin.  Not only are they great on a steak, but amazing on popcorn.  Just add lots of butter and these spices and movie night never tasted so good.

:: Hand Heart Card ::
I love when we 'make our own' cards.  But sometimes they just end up looking like scribbles and glitter on a page.  Ok, most of the time that's what they are. This year I decided to guide my children a bit more.  I printed out a simple message - leaving the heart part blank.  Once the page was trimmed to fit into an envelope and folded in half, I stamped the end of my children's hands onto an ink pad and then onto the paper to form a heart.  Be sure to write their age on the back of the card!

:: Mustache on a stick ::
Does your dad have a mustache?  Did he have one?  Does he think they are funny?  Which ever way he rolls, these are pretty funny for photos or on top of a cupcake.  Find the template here and make from brown or black felt or card stock and glue to a skewer or toothpick (depending on your application).

:: Altoid Tool Boxes ::
The perfect way to make a gift card a little more special.  Or really, anything more special.  Simply spray paint an Altiods tin red and attach a mini handle to the top.  Easy.  Quick.  Fun.  Find the instructions here.

:: Steak Sandwiches ::
Give traditional steak a facelift by putting it on really good bread, spreading it thick with herbed mayo, and layering tomatoes and onions on top.  Heavenly.  And a great way to feed a crowd in case you are hosting Father's Day at your house.

:: Coconut Creme Cakes ::
My dad loves coconut creme.  So these little cakes are perfect for him.  And perfect for summer.  And just perfect anytime for any reason.  I made mine by baking a simple white cake in a sheet pan then cutting out circles of the cooled cake with a biscuit cutter.  I piped coconut creme filling onto the circles and topped them with toasted coconut.  A perfect bite of cake.
