Dream House :: Entry Way

Last night we looked at a potential new house.  It's a great house with an unfinished basement and a lovely green space view.  It's pretty expensive, so we are working through how that plays out.  In the mean time I can't help but think about what I would want to do to make the funky grandma house a home for our family.

The initial framework of the house won't change - unless some miracle happens - so in the beginning I need to figure out ways to make the space lovely without trying to tear out walls.  First up would be the entry way.  It's small, but could be fun to separate the space with a pop of color and interest.

I would love to do wall paper - but anything I like is expensive and I would spend hours attempting to pull it off when we did decide to tear out walls.  I've seen painted walls but I couldn't remember if they looked cool or shabby.  Then I saw Mark Chamberlain and swooned! These are painted walls!!  Painted!  Not that when I do it they will be as amazing, but it's really encouraging to see what can be done with paint and a stencil.  And patience.  Lots of patience.

Paint?  Are you kidding me?

I also have a skinny console table that is currently acting as a bedside table.  It's gunmetal grey because that's how Crate and Barrel made it - but I'm thinking about having it enameled in white.  I've heard rumors that auto paint stores will paint metal furniture for you, and not for much money.  We don't have an auto paint place near by (I'm sure I could Google it) but we do have a scooter painting place.  I have a feeling they would do it - if I asked nicely.

Which just leaves one little problem.  Keys.  Our current situation has drawers.  So the keys, sunglasses, etc. all drop into the drawers and disappear.  I would need to find a catchall or a box or something to make it simple to drop keys into - but also somewhere that we know where our keys are all the time.

I've collected A LOT of inspiration for entry ways. I've always wanted a formal space that was separate from the living room.  I would love to have a lovely stairway that ran through the entry, but you have to have an upstairs first.  Until that happens, it will just be a flat space.

I love this pattern, the clear table and the pink and green accessories.  This pattern could be really cool in Kelly Green - the table painted white - and a lamp?

Oh, but an old dresser is fun too.

We do need somewhere to sit and put shoes on the crew.  A bench would be nice, buy maybe too deep for the space.

Oh, I want this.  But there isn't an 'upstairs' which makes a staircase a little silly.  But a girl can dream.
