Good Morning + Vegetable report

We have had a ridiculously busy two weeks.  We had a funeral service last week for Mr. Hedin's grandmother which marked the end of an emotionally draining week.  Then this weekend we had a wedding.  The irony?  The funeral was for a 94 year old - and so was the wedding!  My grandfather has found a new reason to live longer in a new wife.  While it's slightly odd, it's so good for him to have a companion.

Then today I woke up to the best day ever!  Today was my first delivery of Full Circle Farms produce.  It's going to come every other week on Mondays and I am so excited to see what I get!  This week was beautiful nectarines, blueberries, spinach, lettuce greens, and a TON of other things.

I got started on Full Circle Farms because I have been reading The Butcher and the Vegetarian and have been feeling guilty that I just can't get to the farmer's market.  It's a big fabulous farmer's market here in Seattle and it's the one the author goes to.  It's literally two miles from my house.  My sister belongs to a CSA so I decided to look into it - same idea, farmer's market brought to you.  As providence would have it, the day I was completely spun up about organic fruit for my kids, a flyer came from Full Circle Farms with a discount code to sign up.  Hooray!

I can't see a reason not to sign up for Full Circle Farms.  It's a lovely selection of fruit and vegetables, all organic, and all delivered to the front door.  For $35 every other week we have plenty of vegetables for the summer - especially since I am growing a handful of vegetables too.  In the winter we can increase the order or if my son ever decides to eat the food put in front if him, we can increase the then order too.  Currently it's plenty for Mr. Hedin and I.

The three varieties of carrots planted this year.  There are a few bites missing...

On a related note - my garden has completely gone insane.  I haven't even taken pictures because I haven't been up there long enough to do anything except maintain and harvest (read above for why I've been too busy).  But I am so excited to start doing something with the harvest - other than just eating it while I walk back to the house.  I'm pickling carrots today and making baby food from the extra peas.  I'm hoping next weekend I will be able to be there long enough to take photos.  The tomato plant that I have been tracking is almost as tall as I am right now.  It has a ton of blossoms and just a few little tomatoes starting to come on.

A handful of the peas.  My grandpa unshelled the rest.

A real head of romaine lettuce, from my garden!  Now that I've figured out how to make them grow properly, there's no stopping me.

This week is a really busy one for me with lots of work to do on the book - and on another exciting project.  It's going to be a crazy fall and I can't wait to jump in feet first!
